SONY MUSIC // CLARA

Instead of a longer narrative music video, Sony Music and Clara wanted smaller content-videos made for her new song Weirdo. Our job at M2 Film was therefore to create an entire universe of videos of 30 seconds that would portray the message and atmosphere of the song.

Clara’s ’Weirdo’ is about embracing all things quirky, weird, and different. But while being a “weirdo” often comes with negative connotations, the song is actually a happy summer hit with high energy and good vibes. The song goes out to everyone who can relate to feeling a bit different sometimes. That’s what we wanted to show in these videos.

Our director, Daniel Rask, has been the perfect partner and interpreter on ’Weirdo’. In his own creative ways, he made the music and pictures fit together exactly how I visioned them in my head.

STRONG SET-DESIGN

The 70’s set design portrayed the meeting between a retro and new style to showcase the fusion between conflicting elements.

We chose to build the entire set from scratch because we wanted to control the esthetics as much as possible. This was a comprehensive task, but it allowed us to create the perfect universe for Clara and Sony’s visions.

At the same time, the set design emphasizes that all the crazy and weird thoughts only exist in Clara’s head. Not in the real world.

MUTUAL UNDERSTANDING

Music videos are a special genre, where the process of finding the core storyline and connecting it with the musician’s (personal) intentions, demands a mutual understanding and close dialogue. The chemistry between artist and director is therefore of a decisive nature.

At the same time, it was important for Sony and Clara to work with a young team, where the team would be able to relate to some of the emotions and challenges that the younger generation lives through today.
